I check myself for the hundredth time in the mirror by the front door. Inhaling deeply, I shake my hands to loosen them, but when I clench them again, I find my palms sweaty.

I notice a green dot on her profile. She must be online now.

Why the hell is she on Prose in the first place? She could have the real thing with me. Is there something else I don’t know about her?

I hear a car door slam shut. When I look outside, I see Beatrice in a car with her phone in her hand, probably reading my message. She looks up and quickly shoves it into her purse. Once she’s on the sidewalk, she straightens her coat and gives her long, flaxen blond hair one last toss over her shoulder.

Those two simple, innocuous gestures make my cock turn to stone, and I haven’t even touched her yet.

I open the door, watching as she grips the bannister, slowly making her way toward me, averting her eyes, but I know she’s seen me waiting for her.

She coughs slightly, bringing me back to this moment.

I step aside as she enters the house. She puts her purse down on the side table by the door. As she begins to remove her coat, I help her from the back, taking it in my hands to hang it in the hall closet.
